entry arrow12:58 PM | Sita Sings the Blues

You have got to watch this truly groundbreaking animated film by Nina Paley, Sita Sings the Blues (official website here), which is a delightful postmodern mix of the Indian epic Ramayana, breakup stories, and the great singer Annette Henshaw singing the blues.

And because of copyright disputes over the music, it's totally available for free in YouTube. Here's the link for the first clip.

Roger Ebert is ecstatic over it: "I began. I was enchanted. I was swept away. I was smiling from one end of the film to the other. It is astonishingly original. It brings together four entirely separate elements and combines them into a great whimsical chord."
