[3rd of 100]. Everything is exquisite and precise -- and violent -- in this film, which for me equals the more blatant blood and gore in the director's other masterpieces like Taxi Driver or Goodfellas or Raging Bull. Except that the violence here is done in whispers and lace and knowing looks and social conventions, which is scarier I think. I can't help go back to this picture every so often, to take in the pace, the subtlety, the lushness, the luxuriant cadence of Joanne Woodward's narration. What's the film?
