entry arrow5:25 PM | The End of Summer

I will always think of May as the best month to be in Dumaguete. The sweltering heat aside [I prefer to call it “caloric”], much of Maytime here reminds me of midsummer magic: the unplanned trips to the nearby beaches and assorted mountain escapes, in particular, as well as the random cultural and artistic happenings that make Dumaguete a vibrant city that it is. In retrospect, I did so much this summer: a Negros Island OBT, a stint at paneling for the Silliman University National Writers Workshop, a zine fest at Robinson’s, a book launch at the Cultural Centre of the Philippines, a night with musical animals at the African savannah, several poetry readings and lectures, plus summer school. Daghan baya ang nabuhat, although I’m always plagued with the thought that I could have done more. I will always be thankful and grateful for all these opportunities, and to friends and family I’ve shared all these with. It’s the 31st of May, and summer ends. May our adventures continue.
