Call for Manuscripts to the 16th IYAS National Writers’ Workshop
The University of St. La Salle-Bacolod (USLS) is inviting young writers to submit their application for the 16th IYAS National Writers’ Workshop which will be held on 24 – 30 April 2016 at Balay Kalinungan, USLS-Bacolod.
Applicants should submit original work: either 6 poems, 2 short stories, or 2 one-act plays using a pseudonym, in two (2) computer-encoded hard copies of entry, font size 12 pts., double-spaced, and soft copies in a CD (MSWord). Short stories must be numbered, by paragraph, on the left margin.
These are to be accompanied by a sealed size 10 business envelope, inside of which should be the author’s real name and chosen pseudonym, a 2x2 ID photo, and short resume. Everything must be mailed on or before
19 February 2016.
Entries in English, Cebuano, Hiligaynon, Tagalog or Filipino may be submitted. Fellowships are awarded by genre and by language.
Fifteen applicants will be chosen for the workshop fellowships, which will include partial transportation subsidy and free board and lodging.
This year’s panelists include Grace Monte de Ramos, RayBoy Pandan, D.M. Reyes, Dinah Roma, John Iremil Teodoro, and Marjorie Evasco as Workshop Director.

Call for Manuscripts to the 23rd Iligan National Writers Workshop
The MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology and the Mindanao Creative Writers Group are accepting manuscripts to the 23rd Iligan National Writers Workshop (INWW) to be held on May 30-June 3, 2016 in the MSU-IIT, Iligan City.
There are 18 slots available for writers who have attended regional writers workshops or creative writing classes and whose works are unpublished. Six (6) INWW alumni (INWW 1-5: 1994-1998) from across the regions are welcome to send their works in progress along with a brief paper on their creative process.
Applicants may submit five (5) poems; one, one-act play; one short fiction, and an excerpt of a novel in progress in any of these languages: Filipino, English, Sebuano, Waray, Hiligaynon, Kinaray-a, Akyanon, Chabacano, Maranao or Higaunon.
Except for works in Filipino and in English, please provide translations of your works in either Filipino or in English. Those submitting excerpts of novels should provide a one-page summary of the novel. The general theme for works to be submitted this year is on conflict and on conflict resolution as part of nation building but is not confined only to these themes.

Call for Submissions to Sands & Coral 2016
Sands & Coral, Silliman University’s historic literary journal, is now accepting submissions for its 2015-2016 issue.
S&C is open to all persons currently enrolled in or once affiliated with Silliman University, as well as former fellows and panelists of the Silliman University National Writers Workshop. Sillimanian students are strongly encouraged to submit works.
The folio accepts works of fiction (short stories/excerpts from a novel-in-progress), poetry, creative nonfiction, graphic narratives (comics), artwork, and photos.
Prose submissions (fiction and creative nonfiction) should be between 1,000-4,000 words. Submissions should have a 1” margin on all sides, encoded in Times New Roman, Book Antiqua, Georgia, or Garamond, 1.5-spaced, and have a 12-point font size. ONLY ONE STORY/CNF PER APPLICANT IS ALLOWED. (For non-student applicants, only unpublished stories/CNF will be considered.) Subject matter is free, unrestricted.
Poetry submissions should come in a suite of 3-5 pieces. They should be written in the fonts and font-size specified above. (For non-student applicants, only unpublished poems will be considered.) Subject matter is free and unrestricted.
Graphic narrative submissions should be between 5-7 pages long, in black-and-white only. (For non-student applicants, only unpublished comics will be considered.) Subject matter is free and unrestricted.
Art and photo submissions should be composed of 3-5 pieces, in black-and-white only. They should be submitted in .jpeg, with a resolution of not less than 300 dpi.
All submissions should be attached to e-mail and sent to the Editors at this address: sandsandcoral2016@gmail.com. All applicants should also attach to the same e-mail a short biographical note, which must not exceed 350 words.

The 60th Palanca Awards Now Accepting Entries
The Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature (more popularly known as the Palanca Awards) continues to live up to its reputation as the country’s most prestigious and longest-running literary contest as it officially opens its 60th year.
This year, the Carlos Palanca Foundation looks forward to more brilliant works to add to its trove of 1,954 winning literary gems it has gathered since it first handed out an award in 1951.
The regular categories under which participants can submit their entries are: English Division [Short Story, Short Story for Children, Essay, Poetry, One-act Play, and Full-length Play]; Filipino Division [Maikling Kuwento, Maikling Kuwentong Pambata, Sanaysay, Tula, Dulang May Isang Yugto, Dulang Ganap ang Haba, and Dulang Pampelikula]; Regional Languages Division [Short Story-Cebuano, Short Story-Hiligaynon, and Short Story-Iluko]. Each contestant may submit only one entry per category.
Much anticipated as well are entries to the competition’s relatively new categories: Poetry Written for Children in the English Division and Tulang Isinulat Para sa mga Bata in the Filipino division. The categories were launched last year to encourage the development of a body of poetry for young children ages 6-12.
Meanwhile, in the Kabataan Division, Palanca Awards’ special division for young writers below 18 years old, the Kabataan Essay theme in the English category is "What is it in the environment that I can protect?", and in the Filipino category, “Ano sa kalikasan ang aking kayang pangalagaan?”.
The literary contest is open to all Filipino (or former Filipino) citizens, except current officers and employees of its organizing body, the Carlos Palanca Foundation, Inc. Contest rules and official entry forms are available at Palanca Awards’ official website, www.palancaawards.com.ph.

Call for Submission of Manuscripts to the 49th Silliman University National Writers Workshop
The Silliman University National Writers Workshop is now accepting applications for the 49th National Writers Workshop to be held 3-21 May 2010 in Dumaguete City.
This Writers Workshop is offering fifteen fellowships to promising young writers who would like a chance to hone their craft and refine their style. Fellows will be provided housing, a modest stipend, and a subsidy to partially defray costs of their transportation.
To be considered, applicants should submit manuscripts in English on or before
19 March 2010 (seven to ten poems; or three to five short stories; or three to five creative non-fiction essays). Manuscripts should be submitted in hard copy and on CD, preferably in MS Word, together with a resume, a recommendation letter from a literature professor or a writer of national standing, a notarized certification that the works are original, and two 2X2 ID pictures.

Things We Ask in the Aftermath
Let’s take a little break from our excursion—historically and sociologically—on the Dumaguete night life. It would not have been right if I had devoted this space to something so utterly banal in the context of our suddenly grief-stricken lives. I just cannot bring myself to write further about the topic for now.
Not now. Not when too many people—many of them our friends and families—suffer from the rash onset and then the sad and deadly aftermath of Ondoy’s wrath.
But then again, I must also wonder:
what else can I say or write? No words can equal the depths of their sufferings or the heights of our sympathies. No words from those of us who are miles removed from the epicenter of woe, mere bystanders to the tragedy, can even attempt to console the ones who were there. I beheld only the horrors from across the divide, through my TV and computer screens. To attempt to say anything runs the risk of sounding out empty words. We can only offer prayers and the generosity of our donations. But to
experience the horror and live to talk about it?
“The water was waist deep in Anonas,” my best friend
Mark Fabillar told me over chat in Facebook. He had just gotten out of work, and soon found himself battling the increasing levels of water. It was a taste of the Metro he was not prepared for. He had just transplanted himself in Manila after years of relative safety in Dumaguete—he had never seen flood waters
that high. “Can you imagine the garbage, the feces, the slicks of oil that were gurgling all around me?” he said. He told me to imagine the smell. He told me to imagine the sheer horror of having to go against the current.
And that was all I could do:
imagine.
And to think Mark was one of the luckier ones. He managed to get home in Quezon City safely, where the house he shares with film director
Jay Altarejos was blessedly perched on higher grounds. In Marikina and in nearby Rizal province, and in many other places around the Metro, others were not so lucky. The deluge claimed lives and upended the eternal divide between the social classes. As of this writing, the casualties number now above the 200 mark—but the rest of the affected ones, the ones who have been uprooted from their homes, nay, their lives, number in the high thousands.
And, as often the case with things like this, we turn inwards and ask ourselves whatever led to these things happening. The writer/artist

But no one is telling me what I really want to know: Why did this happen? How can this be avoided? Is that even possible? What does this mean for all of us? What happens next? Beyond the short term relief and rescue efforts, what can we do next?
He's asking us to participate in a book project for relief efforts towards the Ondoy tragedy, with contributions answering some of those questions.
I'm still asking. And I still have no words.

UBOD New Authors Series 2009
The National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the National Committee on Literary Arts (NCLA), and the Ateneo Institute of Literary Arts and Practice (AILAP) are now accepting manuscripts for the UBOD Series 2009. Twelve writers who have not released book-length titles will be given a chance to have their first book published under the UBOD New Authors Series. Four manuscripts written in four languages of each of the three major Philippine Island groups -- Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao -- will be chosen. The manuscript (of 20-40 poems or 5-10 short fiction) should be 40-60 pages in chapbook length. The topic this year is biskwit, traditional cookies that have been part of Philippine cuisine, nationally or locally, for at least 50 years. There are many types including pan de san nicolas, kamachile, uraro, roscas, biscocho principe, among many others. Modern products like today's chocolate chip cookies are not included. English-language essays from 4,500 to 5,00 characters (800 words) will be judged by professional writers for content, research, and style. The judges' decision is final, and submissions become the property of Manila Ladies Branch of the International Wine & Food Society who manage the contest. The NCCA Writers Prize 2010
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts announces that the NCCA Writers’ Prize is now open for application by Filipino writers. The NCCA Writers’ Prize a biennial grant awarded to five writers, one for each of the following categories: Poetry (Ilocano language), Novel (Filipino language), Essay (Kapampangan language), and Drama (Cebuano language/Bicolano language). The grant, in the amount of TWO HUNDRED FIFTY THOUSAND PESOS gross, will assist the Grantee during the writing stage of the project. Call for Submissions to Philippine Speculative Fiction Vol. 5
Editors Nikki Alfar and Vin Simbulan are now accepting submissions of short fiction pieces for consideration for the anthology
Philippine Speculative Fiction V.
Speculative fiction is the literature of wonder that spans the genres of fantasy, science fiction, horror and magic realism or falls into the cracks in-between.
1. Only works of speculative fiction will be considered for publication. As works of the imagination, the theme is open and free.
2. Stories must cater to an adult sensibility. However, if you have a Young Adult story that is particularly well-written, send it in.
3. Stories must be written in English.
4. Stories must be authored by Filipinos or those of Philippine ancestry.
5. Preference will be given to original unpublished stories, but previously published stories will also be considered. In the case of previously published material, kindly include the title of the publishing entity and the publication date. Kindly state also in your cover letter that you have the permission, if necessary, from the original publishing entity to republish your work.
6. First time authors are welcome to submit. In the first four volumes, we had a good mix of established and new authors. Good stories trump literary credentials anytime.
7. No multiple submissions. Each author may submit only one story for consideration.
8. Each story’s word count must be no fewer than 1,500 words and no more than 7,500 words.
9. All submissions must be in Rich Text Format (.rtf – save the document as .rft on your word processor) and attached to an email to this address: nikkialfar@gmail.com. Submissions received in any other format will be deleted, unread.
10. The subject of your email must read: PSF5 Submission: (title) (word count); where (title) is replaced by the title of your short story, without the parentheses, and (word count) is the word count of your story, without the parentheses. For example – PSF5 Submission: Meeting Makiling 4500.
11. All submissions must be accompanied by a cover letter that includes your name, brief bio, contact information, previous publications (if any). Introduce yourself.
12. Deadline for submissions is October 15, 2009. After that date, final choices will be made and letters of acceptance or regret sent out via email. Target publishing date is February 2010.
14. Compensation for selected stories will be 2 contributor’s copies of the published anthology as well as a share in aggregrate royalties.

Call for Submissions to Likhaan: The Journal of Contemporary Literature Issue 3
Likhaan: The UP Institute of Creative Writing announces that it is now accepting submissions for possible inclusion in the third issue of
Likhaan: the Journal of Contemporary Literature. Likhaan, the country's leading literary peer-reviewed journal, is funded by the Office of the UP Diliman Chancellor, and is published annually. The ICW fellows and associates take turns serving as its editor. The initial issue, released in December 2007 during the Institute's traditional Writers' Night was edited by Jose Dalisay, present ICW director. Issue No. 2, released in January 2008, was edited by National Artist Virgilio Almario, the present dean of the College of Arts and Letters, and a former ICW director. Likhaan 3 will be edited by Cristina Pantoja Hidalgo, also a former ICW director and presently UP Vice President for Public Affairs. Associate editors will be Roland Tolentino (for Filipino) and Charlson Ong (for English).
The guidelines follow:
1. For its third issue,
Likhaan: the Journal of Contemporary Philippine Literature 3, will accept submissions in the following genres, in both English and Filipino:
• Short stories ranging from about 12 to 30 pages double-spaced, in 11-12 points Times Roman, New York, Palatino, Book Antique, Arial or some such standard font. (A suite of short prose pieces will be considered.)
• A suite of four to seven poems, out of which the editors might choose three to five. (Long poems will be considered in lieu of a suite.)
• Creative nonfiction (essays, memoirs, profiles, etc.), subject to the same length limitations as short stories (see above).
• Critical/scholarly essays, subject to the same length limitations as short stories (see above)
• Excerpts from graphic novels, or full short graphic stories, for reproduction in black and white on no more than 10 printed pages, 6” x 9.” (Excerpts should be accompanied by a synopsis of the full narrative.)
2. All submissions must be original, and previously unpublished.
3. All submissions must be accompanied by a biographical sketch (no more than one or two short paragraphs) of the author, including contact information (address, telephone number, e-mail address).

Call for Entries to the 2009 Maningning Miclat Trilingual Poetry Competition
The Maningning Miclat Art Foundation is calling on young poets aged 28 and below to submit entries to the 2009 Maningning Miclat Trilingual Poetry Competition in three divisions: Filipino, English and Chinese. The Maningning Award, handed out yearly since 2003, honors China-born Maningning Miclat, a poet in three languages, a published essayist, and a prizewinning visual artist who was also a teacher, translator and interpreter. Her collection
Voice from the Underworld (Anvil, 2000) is the first book of poetry in the world in Filipino, English and Chinese written solely by one author. Some of her poems were included in a book of top international women poets in Chinese published in China. She passed away in September 2000. The Maningning Miclat Art Foundation was formed in 2001 to carry on the artist/poet’s legacy, encourage creativity, and support outstanding young poets and artists. The trilingual poetry competition is held during odd-numbered years, while the painting competition is held during even-numbered years.
An entry must have at least eight but not more than 15 poems. Authors may join all the divisions but can submit only one entry in each division. All entries should be original in any of the three languages and not a translation of another entry. Four copies should be submitted, with the poems printed double-spaced on regular bond paper with one-inch margins on all sides, using Arial or Times New Roman size-12 font. Only a pen name must be printed on an entry, with the real name and pen name submitted in a separate sealed envelope together with the entrant’s biodata, birth certificate copy, and a notarized declaration of originality and authenticity of authorship.

Hedgebrook Retreat for Women Writers is Open for 2009 Applicants
Kimi Tuvera has emailed me some information about the Hedgebrook Retreat, hoping there are female writers out there who may be interested. For those who are, this is the thing to know: "Hedgebrook invests in women who write by providing them with space and time to create significant work, in solitude and community, and by developing an international network to connect writers and audiences."
Their website further describes the retreat: "Hedgebrook is on Whidbey Island, about thirty-five miles northwest of Seattle. Situated on 48-acres of forest and meadow facing Puget Sound, the retreat hosts women writers from all over the world for residencies of two weeks to two months, at no cost to the writer. Residents are housed in six handcrafted cottages, where they spend their days in solitude –- writing, reading, taking walks in the woods on the property, on nearby Double Bluff beach or trails around the island. In the evenings, they gather in the farmhouse kitchen to share a home-cooked gourmet meal, their work, their process and their stories. The women who come to Hedgebrook are writing in all genres, and are of all ages, ethnicities, backgrounds and levels of writing experience."

The editors envision the
Coming Soon anthology as a choice selection of Philippine erotic literature. As such, the main considerations for selection were the following: (1) pieces should fit the theme of "losing virginity"; (2) works accepted should be of good quality in terms of insight, perspective and craft, and (3) the anthology as a whole should be balanced in its portrayal of sexual orientation, class and generational sensitivities.
Clearly the accepted works so far are not sufficient to complete an anthology that meets the above demands.
Hence, the editors are re-issuing the call for submissions to encourage more writers to submit new or revised pieces for consideration.The editors are renewing the call for submissions. Deadline is Sunday,

Coming Soon is an anthology of erotic poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction on the loss of virginity. The piece must specifically address a first (human, as opposed to something like bestial) sexual experience. The editors are looking for are pieces that depict an initiation into the sexual act, therefore we will not consider works that try to be coy: for instance, please don't send a piece on how some character/persona discovers there is such a thing as fornication, yet doesn't engage in it. They'd consider that a cop-out. Neither are they looking for pieces on giving one's self sexual pleasure. Works submitted should involve at least two conscious people (no corpses, please!), with an exchange of bodily fluids or whatnot. (If there is no exchange of bodily fluids, the work should address the question:
But why the heck not?)
Open to Philippine writers in English and Filipino. Past published works are welcome as long as they have not yet appeared in an anthology.

Philippine Speculative Fiction Anthology Now on Its Fourth Volume
A reminder. Dean and Nikki Alfar are now accepting submissions of short fiction pieces for consideration for the anthology
Philippine Speculative Fiction Vol. 4. Speculative fiction is the literature of wonder that spans the genres of fantasy, science fiction, horror and magic realism or falls into the cracks in-between.
1. Only works of speculative fiction will be considered for publication. As works of the imagination, the theme is open and free.
2. Stories must cater to an adult sensibility. However, if you have a Young Adult story that is particularly well-written, send it in.
3. Stories must be written in English.
4. Stories must be authored by Filipinos or those of Philippine ancestry.
5. Preference will be given to original unpublished stories, but previously published stories will also be considered. In the case of previously published material, kindly include the title of the publishing entity and the publication date. Kindly state also in your cover letter that you have the permission, if necessary, from the original publishing entity to republish your work.
6. First time authors are welcome to submit. In the first three volumes, there was a good mix of established and new authors. Good stories trump literary credentials anytime.
7. No multiple submissions. Each author may submit only one story for consideration.
8. Each story’s word count must be no fewer than 1,500 words and no more than 7,500 words.
9. All submissions must be in Rich Text Format (.rtf – save the document as .rtf on your word processor) and attached to an email to this address: dean(at)kestrelddm(dot)com. Submissions received in any other format will be deleted, unread.
10. The subject of your email must read: PSF4 Submission: (title) (word count); where (title) is replaced by the title of your short story, without the parentheses, and (word count) is the word count of your story, without the parentheses. For example - PSF4 Submission: Magdalena Brings Fire 3500.
11. All submissions must be accompanied by a cover letter that includes your name, brief bio, contact information, previous publications (if any). Introduce yourself.

Fully Booked and Neil Gaiman Present the 3rd Philippine Graphic/Fiction Awards
And it's that time of the year again. Has it been three years already? I still remember dining with Neil Gaiman as if it was yesterday. From the
official website: "After two successful years of exploring Filipino Unrealism through prose fiction and comics, the Philippine Graphic Fiction Awards opens its third with a new category: short film. All Filipino citizens may send their original entries in the prose fiction, comics, and short film categories to any Fully Booked branch. The winning prose and comics entries will be compiled and published by Fully Booked, with a foreword by Neil Gaiman. All winning short films will be screened on awarding day." Get the Ear of an American Literary Agent

CANVAS:
CANVAS, as part of its mission, strives to open new opportunities for Filipino writers in the global market. CANVAS is therefore very proud to announce that we have tied up with the Sandra Dijkstra Literary Agency, one of the top agencies in the United States to launch the CANVAS Story Writing for Young Children Competition (target readership: 4-6 years old).
We will be putting up a modest cash prize for the winner, but what should pique the interest of writers here is that Kelly Sonnack, Literary Agent at the Sandra Dijkstra Literary Agency will review and provide feedback on the top five stories selected by CANVAS.
While there is no guarantee of anything beyond their look and review, it is notoriously difficult to even get stories considered for representation, much less publication, in the US.
We regard this as a huge, difficult-to-overstate, no-lose, possible-foot- in-the-door opportunity for writers to be introduced and hopefully represented by a literary agency that can help bring Filipino stories not just in the US, but to the worldwide market. We therefore highly encourage all Filipino writers to participate.
We will issue the official rules on Monday next week. Watch out for it!

Call for Submissions to Likhaan Journal
After the launch of the first
Likhaan Journal at the last Writers Night, the UP Institute of Creative Writing is again calling for submissions for this year’s volume. The journal is open to fiction, poetry, essay and graphic novel submissions in English and Filipino.
The first
Likhaan Journal was edited by Dr. Jose Dalisay, with Drs. J. Neil Garcia and Lilia Quindoza Santiago as poetry and fiction editors, respectively. The volume featured fiction from Alwin Aguirre, Mayette Bayuga, Catherine Bucu, Amelia Lapena-Bonifacio, Charlson Ong and Socorro Villanueva; poetry from Raymond de Borja, Mikael de Lara Co, Francis Arias Montesena and Joel Toledo; essays by Gemino Abad, Exie Abola and Reuel Molina Aguila; a photo essay by Vim Nadera, drama from Rene O. Villanueva and an interview of National Artist Bienvenido Lumbera.
The
Likhaan Journal is available for P250 at the UP ICW and at UP Press Bookstores.
The deadline for this year’s submissions is
May 31.
Submission Guidelines1. For its second issue,
Likhaan will accept submissions in the following genres, in both English and Filipino:
(a) Short stories ranging from about 12 to 30 pages double-spaced (in 11-12 points Times Roman, New York, Palatino, Book Antique, Arial or some such standard font). A suite of short prose pieces will be considered.
(b) A suite of four to seven poems, out which the editors might choose three to five. Long poems will be considered in lieu of a suite.
(c) Essays (critical, scholarly, and/or creative nonfiction), subject to the same length limitations as short stories, above.
(d) Excerpts from graphic novels, or full short graphic stories, for reproduction in black and white on no more than 10 printed pages, 6” x 9”. Excerpts should be accompanied by a synopsis of the full narrative.
2. All submissions must be original, and unpublished anywhere else. All submissions must be accompanied by a biographical sketch (no more than one or two short paragraphs) of the author, including contact information (address, telephone number, e-mail address).
3. Submissions may be e-mailed to likhaanjournal(at)gmail(dot)com, or posted to The Editors,
Likhaan Journal, UP Institute of Creative Writing, Rizal Hall, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City, 1101.
4. All submissions should be received (whether by e-mail or post) no later than May 31, 2008.
5. All submissions will undergo a strict pre-screening and blind refereeing process by the editors and a panel of referees composed of eminent writers and critics from within and outside the University of the Philippines.
6. Writers whose work will be accepted for publication will receive a substantial cash payment and a copy of the published journal.
7. The editors reserve the right to edit any and all materials accepted for publication. The editors may also solicit or commission special, non-refereed articles for publication outside of the aforementioned genres and categories to enhance the editorial content and balance of the journal.

Likhaan: The UP Institute of Creative Writing announces that it is now accepting submissions for possible inclusion in the third issue of Likhaan: the Journal of Contemporary Literature. Likhaan, the country's leading literary peer-reviewed journal, is funded by the Office of the UP Diliman Chancellor, and is published annually. The ICW fellows and associates take turns serving as its editor. The initial issue, released in December 2007 during the Institute's traditional Writers' Night was edited by Jose Dalisay, present ICW director. Issue No. 2, released in January 2008, was edited by National Artist Virgilio Almario, the present dean of the College of Arts and Letters, and a former ICW director. Likhaan 3 will be edited by Cristina Pantoja Hidalgo, also a former ICW director and presently UP Vice President for Public Affairs. Associate editors will be Roland Tolentino (for Filipino) and Charlson Ong (for English).
The Maningning Miclat Art Foundation is calling on young poets aged 28 and below to submit entries to the 2009 Maningning Miclat Trilingual Poetry Competition in three divisions: Filipino, English and Chinese. The Maningning Award, handed out yearly since 2003, honors China-born Maningning Miclat, a poet in three languages, a published essayist, and a prizewinning visual artist who was also a teacher, translator and interpreter. Her collection Voice from the Underworld (Anvil, 2000) is the first book of poetry in the world in Filipino, English and Chinese written solely by one author. Some of her poems were included in a book of top international women poets in Chinese published in China. She passed away in September 2000. The Maningning Miclat Art Foundation was formed in 2001 to carry on the artist/poet’s legacy, encourage creativity, and support outstanding young poets and artists. The trilingual poetry competition is held during odd-numbered years, while the painting competition is held during even-numbered years.
